Conversation with a PMBA - what’s the difference?

November 9th, 2007 · 1 Comment

At a recent gathering of Tulane MBA’s I got talking to a PMBA about the differences between the P and the MBA. I received a quick note the other day with some more information:

Hey Joel,

Hope all is well. Here are my comments regarding the PMBA inquiry that we
talked about at the Halloween party.

As you mentioned in your note, PMBAs can take the same classes as full-time
MBAs, and are graded the same way.
Also, there will be nothing on your diploma
or transcript that says you were a PMBA. Really, the main difference is that
most classes we take are evening classes, and that it will take 3 years to
complete the program as opposed to 2. The advantage, is that you can keep
working full time while getting your MBA. For me, however, the main
disadvantage is that I probably won’t be able to do any summer internships
because I do work full time; so upon graduation, it may not be as easy for me
to make a career change. But who knows; we’ll see what happens. Hopefully the
CMC will get better.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, [anonymous student]! I’ve got an upcoming interview planned with Stephen Estrada, who’s in the PMBA programs office. If any potential P or MBA’s have questions for him, send ‘em over! Just use that contact form right below this period.

I like the fact that the PMBA program is only 2 nights a week after work. It’s really conveinent. It’s good to know that someone cares for the working adults with kids.
