It’s very tempting for some to get lost in the grueling labor of study and forget that there is a world outside the business school at Tulane. In the MBA program all of your classes will be inside the graduate business building. If you like the gym… you’ll probably be over there some. I am in the library a lot. But really, your in the graduate business building and everything else is secondary.
On my way to and from school everyday (sometimes twice), I pass by a lot of neat stuff. Today’s post is dedicated to Diana Arbus. If you don’t know who she is, you really should. You can read about her on Wikipedia right here.
Basically, she is a very famous portrait photographer. Nicole Kidman made a movie about her. She is very well respected and collected. She has a terribly interesting story and I was stunned to realize that Tulane was having an exhibition of her work. There were 30 or so portraits spanning the entire lifetime of her work. Granted, the most famous pieces are at the Guggenheim, MoMa, yada yada yada. I guess if you were to go to NYU, you could technically get sandwiched into 3 trains, get lost, find yourself, write a short story, pay the cover charge and see her other stuff, but I kinda liked that I got to see it in between my accounting class and my lunch po’boy before walking four blocks to my cozy apartment along tree-lined New Orleans streets.
Am I embellishing? No, actually I’m really not… and I can be prone to do that sometimes.
While in the same exhibition hall I also saw a historical print collection of photography method and an exhibit on Lousiana prisoners that was fantastic. I am pretty picky about the stuff I like and this was really good. Just another awesome benefit I got walking home from school.
Coming up tomorrow… the Tulane neighborhood area. And following that, you might get a look at the Tulane culinary selection if I can find a digital camera. Next week, look forward to my dramatic introduction of this semester’s professors.
