Freeman ranked 15 in Entrepreneurship

October 15th, 2007 · No Comments

Just found out that our very own Freeman School of Business was ranked 15th this year in the Entrepreneur Magazine/Princeton Review top 50 programs in the nation. Entrepreneurship remains one of the biggest draws to the Freeman School, in addition to the Finance program. The Tulane Entrepreneurs Association (I’m a member!) is the biggest club on campus. We’ve got a great speaker series this fall, with local New Orleans entrepreneurs coming to discuss how they’ve bootstrapped their dreams into real businesses, and a $35,000 business plan competition next April.

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 10 /PRNewswire/ — Entrepreneur magazine and The Princeton Review released today the fifth annual ranking of the top 50 graduate and undergraduate entrepreneurship programs in the nation. Heading the list for undergraduate schools is Babson College, and among graduate programs, the University of Southern California takes the number-one position.

Babson College and The University of Arizona took the second and third spots for top graduate programs, respectively. For the undergraduate program ranking, the University of Houston and Drexel University were second and third. A nearly 30% increase in participating schools with this year’s ranking underscores the growing number of entrepreneurial courses nationwide and the established mainstream appeal of business ownership.

All 900 schools surveyed were evaluated based on key criteria in the areas of academics and requirements, students and faculty, and outside-the-classroom support and experiences. A total of 50 schools, 25 undergraduate and 25 graduate schools, made the list, with several others receiving honorable mentions.

“For years now schools have been responding to student demand for competitive entrepreneurial programs,” says Rieva Lesonsky, senior VP and editorial director of Entrepreneur magazine. “The newly emerging trends are in programs that focus on women-owned as well as environmentally and socially conscious businesses. Strong alumni networks, emphasis on feasibility studies and activities for engaging in the local business community continue to be key points among entrepreneurs looking for programs that fit their needs.”

The survey questions for the annual top colleges ranking are revisited each year to ensure that clear, concise and appropriate data is collected. Robert Franek of The Princeton Review says this year, “New questions allowed for more program-specific elements to come to the surface.” This gives prospective students more of the essential information they need to start exploring programs that can prepare them for greater success in their business ventures.

Included is a complete listing of the schools ranked. Pick up the November issue of Entrepreneur on newsstands October 23rd to read the full feature story.
