Freeman Website

June 10th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Reginald (The GBC president) and myself are meeting with the Dean on June 20th. We will push extensively for a new website with better-than-market tools for students, prospectives and recruiters, in addition to a redesign.

Please post here in the comments any suggestions you may have. We have a flurry of affordable ideas (after all, this is business school), but if you have something for us, let me know!

    Will,

I think it would be very beneficial to highlight the skills and experiences of students in the business school on the front page of the site. While this is not a breakthrough idea, I believe it is a very effective marketing tool. I still regularly head to my undergrad website to read about what current students are doing inside and outside of the classroom. It would have made my decision to attend Tulane much easier if I could have read about interesting individual internships and projects that students were working on. Check out the site I’m referring to and let me know if you think this idea might be helpful to Freeman (http://www.wooster.edu/). The type of piece I’m talking about is the Wooster People section. It typically rotates between 8-10 different people and is often refreshed.

I would try to make a site that incorporates all the sites we have to use. I am not very computer savvy but I know that we have to use at least all these sites:

    - Blackboard
    - TOUR
    - MBA Website
    - E-Recruit
    - Library
    - Study.net
    - MBA Blog

One site that I can log on at the beginning of the day that lets me browse through all that would be awesome. I am sure it is not easy to do but I thought I would point that out.

I work with a lot of Tulane students looking for housing. It is not an easy task. You should more information as its a big concern for all the familes sneding there kids to Tulane. Just a thought.

Erics: I like your ideas. In fact, I’ll be bringing your comments directly to the dean for our meeting, as these are all valid points.

In terms of current stories - we’re going to try to get more people involved on the blog and make it more prominent for the MBA side at least. We’ll also be using news stories, which we hope will be more regular.

As to housing requests, there used to be a forum, but unfortunately, not even I know what happened to it. You are right though. Some survivors guide should go on the informational website.

Finally, Max, what you are referring to is sort of a netvibes.com thing. I like it. The current students sections should be more of a dashboard for all students. While the technology certainly exists to do exactly what you’re saying (a la facebook), services like study.net, tour, and blackboard are not quite as advanced, and have no reason to advance, quite frankly.

    That’ll be the day!
