What about Career Fairs in New Orleans?
Career Fairs: We have a big city-wide one called Mardi Gras Invitational career fair. It’s alright. We have our own networking one for the business school (Freeman Days New Orleans), which was pretty good too. Then we have fairs in other cities, which are NYC and Houston. Those are also good. I only went to the ones here (in NOLA) and I got interviews everywhere I asked. The freeman one is more of a networking thing and it turned into 3-4 interviews as I remember. I can’t vouch for the ones in NYC and Houston, but as I heard some people loved them and others thought they were a waste of time. Everyone’s a critic. Remember the best way to get a job is to figure out where you want to work first… then go after the Alumni thing. My take on career fairs is that they are good to gauge the market and ask tough questions you may be a little scared to ask your dream employer. They are also good for getting your interviewing feet wet.
Hooray for summer!
