As you may have realized, the first semester does a good job of evenly weighting theory courses like macroeconomics and practice of management with techie courses like statistics. The second semester you really start to handle business. I avoided fixed income analytics and options. But now I am taking modeling and enterprise valuation. Let’s handle business. Modeling is basically how to build financial models in excel. I decided that the math wasn’t enough of a challenge, so I am going to figure out how to do it in a mac environment. That’s mainly because I am avoiding the ultimate dominion of Microsoft and, of course, attempting to also avoid patronizing a inferior product. Paul Spindt, the teacher, is a sharp guy and his website has a picture of elvis on it. Check out the course materials at elvis.sob.Tulane.edu.
I’ll keep you updated on the crazy crap we build in excel and post some examples!
Stay tuned tomorrow for Enterprise Valuations
