#10: Business School Is Fun!

Yeah, it really is. This is perhaps the last time in your (early) life that you’ll get to take two years off to enjoy yourself, learn something, travel around, make lifelong friends and experience a ton of new places. You know there’s an end, so you’ll want to make as much out of it as you can.

Narrowing the focus to an MBA at Tulane, New Orleans is a great place to get an education. Sure we study hard (link), but there’s also a ton to do!

There’s the option of going full or part time. For me, the choice was full time all the way! There’s so much more to bschool than just the education. Look, any community college can teach the same stuff we learn. There’s no difference from one Harvard Case to another. The value add, in addition to the faculty, are the group work, classmates, projects, presentations, competitions, and weekend work that only comes with a full immersion into the program. This is what sets Stanford apart from the rest for technology, Wharton for Finance and Tulane for Energy (and Finance). The professors and students here are so passionate about their work that the learning experience continues well outside of the classroom environment, something that a part time student wouldn’t have time to adequately balance with the rest of their schedule.

So when you make the decision to take two years off to get smarter, know that you’re also going to have a lot of fun in the process! And let’s face it, when applying for jobs at the end of those two years, do potential employers just want someone who can crunch the numbers and that’s it?? No! They want dedicated players who they’ll want to hang out with outside of work just as much. The MBA is really jack of all trades, master of none. In today’s shrinking economy, the more Swiss army knife you are to an employer, the more likely they’ll keep you around.
