US Colleges drop out of US News rankings

June 24th, 2007 · No Comments

CNN article regarding the (semi?)mass exodus from US News and World Report college rankings. No mention of any top 25 schools doing this (shocker), but it’s nice to see some schools step away from the old and methodical ranking system.

US News, Wall St Journal, Financial Times, etc. rankings on undergrad/grad schools are important because they organize a lot of disparate data in one location. But they shouldn’t be the only, or even a top factor in influencing your decision to choose a school.

Especially for grad school, YOU need to know the type of program that YOU’RE interested in. Wanna do finance/entrepreneurship? Tulane is really strong! Interested in marketing/ops management/IT? May I suggest the Stern School of Management and the University of Washington. Do you research - you’re taking a 2 year, 100% pay cut and incurring about $120k in expenses…make sure when you sign your name on the acceptance letter that this is the place which will serve as a stepping stone to propel your career to the next level!
